Yoga. It’s A Personal Practice
In 2020, I took yoga TT. I have been teaching and studying pilates and alignment for many years and wanted a different perspective and the flowing movements and philosophy of yoga have always appealed.
My hope was to learn from the beginning and form my own opinion of what it yoga is and how it fits in to what I have learned as a movement teacher.
Sometimes clients come to Pilates because they have hurt themselves in yoga or find that the postures are not working for them. So I wanted to understand more.
I was fortunate to have a wonderful teacher, who encouraged me to find my own way with it. To trust the internal spaces. Not how it looks on the outside.
I started a single class in September called Breathe and Flow: Developing a Personal Practice.
When I learn something new, a huge part of the process of deeper learning takes place when I’m teaching real actual people not other teachers who have loads of movement experience.
We started with just 3 in the group which was ideal for social distancing 😆 and gave us plenty of space.
It felt awkward. Unfamiliar. I was out of my comfort zone. I couldn’t figure out which way to stand - face them or have my back to them. I got my rights and lefts mixed up.
We continued to meet weekly and we are now 14 weeks in and something has changed. We have found our flow.
Comments like “I really needed this today” “it feels so much better than when we first began” “I really enjoy coming” are what have become the norm.
I feel very fortunate to have clients who trusted me enough to take them through something new.
I have been able to weave in different elements of alignment, breath and modifications for each person.
My intention was to explore repeating the same sequence each week and witnessing how that changes over time. And it has!
Thank you to the people who dared to take this class and if you fancy joining us for 2022, you can book your place here.
