Best Props For Home Practice
One advantage to home practice is the availability of useful objects to use as props for modification or to enhance a position or stretch.
You don't always need fancy kit or special equipment to get the best out of your practice.
In fact, using familiar objects and spaces in your home can make it more likely that you will try that move in that spot when you need to, rather than waiting for your class to practice.
Kitchen benches, door frames, the seat of a chair or edge all offer opportunities for variation in height, reach or support depending on what you are aiming to do.
The most common pieces of kit that I use in my classes are:
Half dome - you can substitute with a rolled up towel or book
Yoga block - or a book about 2" thick
Strap 2-2.5m long - dressing gown belts work!
Yoga bolster - or rolled up blanket or folded pillow
Yoga TuneUp Balls - or massage ball similar to tennis ball
7-9" inflatable ball - not sure there is substitute for these but they're a great prop to have around the house
You can find some of these homekit essentials in the Bodyspace Movement Store.
Having these readily available can be another way to entice you to do a quick practice, have a quick massage or stretch. The 'little and often' approach can help shift the mindset that practice is only possible in a class setting.
What if you viewed your home as your soft play centre or gym?
